Before talking about today I should review the weekend. We had about a dozen different DNs out, including some sailors not seen for a while. On Friday, three of us sailed in strong winds – MS1s were the sail of choice. Saturday we sailed in light air, and only managed one race, which was generally regarded as a bit fluky. Fluky or not, Terry sailed smart and went from fourth to a win on the last leg. Alex Watters also posted a helmet cam sequence of sailing Terry’s boat to Facebook, copied here:

Today we had nine boats out, and some of us raced for various lengths of time. We retired to Howard’s cottage for a lasagna lunch, courtesy of Terry. The keenest returned to the race course and sailed until the first snow flurries, just after 4 PM. It was a day of in between winds – most of us sailed with ABSSs, although the heavier guys used FO1s. Bob had an almost perfect record, but both Bob and I had to retire from races when we got too close and personal to the leeward mark! I was stupid fast downwind, but just plain stupid upwind. Bob was just fast all around. A couple of photos, with thanks, by Dave Collins.

All in all, I had three days of good sailing: sorry if you missed it!

If we get enough rain after this snowfall, and a few cold nights, we might just be doing this again next weekend. There is still lots of ice on Sherbrooke.

Eben took second in the silver fleet, check him out getting his medal! Next is some great food; it was “international night” so all the participants brought local stuff to eat. It was killah!

Next we see regatta winner Jost Kolb filling the trophy with vodka help from Dideric Von Ramsdic, one of the guys who makes this whole event happen. The vodka was gone before it ate through the trophy!

Next is Eben with his second place medal, Berger with his third place medal, and me with my paper award for fourth.

And a few more… first is a big rock. Plenty of those here! Next a little husky puppy. Cute little poop factory…. old broom. Don’t know why I thought that was interesting apart from the fact that I’ve never used one. Next is a guy using the runner sharpener on the porch of the lodge- not a bad view from the shop! Last is me and my little Siberian friend. Poor guy had the crap scared out of him by a cat a few seconds later…. that cat better watch itself if that dog comes back in a year!

Took a little walk yesterday while under postponement for lack of breeze. Went with Eben, Chris, Marci, and David Howlett of Great Britain. David coached a few British sailors you may have heard of- names like Ainslie and Percy come to mind.

Hey Folks- greeting from Uyuga (I think that’s how it’s spelled) here on Lake Baikal! Just amazing here- The terms “wide open space” and “endless horizon” don’t do it justice. Neither do photos but I’ll try anyway!
