DN NA’s Update #2 Indiana….

Passing through that northern bit of Indiana. We are basically out of things to talk about. Send suggestions please!

Just saw a bald eagle. You could tell what it was because the feathers on it’s head were all combed over from the side.

Told you things were dull. All good on the proud highway- no drama yet! 4 hrs to go….

DN NA #1 Drivin’….

There goes yet another deer carcass on the side of the road… We are headed west.

The gang out west must make some kind of sacrifice (I will suggest that ignorance is bliss) every year to keep us all schlepping out that way. All I know is they’ve found some good conditions for that tradition continues! So it’s kind of a hike but the good news is they are great hosts and we look forward to seeing and sailing with everyone. And having some pickled eggs with MIke Derusha. If you did one of these road trips you’d know what I was talking about. Just sayin’….

All well on the trek west- Rt 80 in Clearfield, PA

DN NA’s Update From The Road

So… The call was just made to head for Green Bay- too bad we couldn’t sail locally but Green Bay was good to us a few years back so… Off we go. The RI contingent will be leaving at 4AM. It’ll be me (T. Thieler) and Chad Atkins in my Dodge Caravan. We will arrive in fine style in only 19hrs, 51minutes. Hopefully a squad of counselors and psychotherapists will be on hand for our arrival. Will send updates from the proud highway!

2012 DN Eastern Regional Results

If you skipped the Eastern Regional Champs you skipped the wrong regatta! We enjoyed great ice, wind, and people on outer Mallet’s Bay in Colchester, VT. There was a good turnout thanks to the gang from New Jersey and our Canadian friends to the north, plus the usual suspects from the rest of New England. The venue was scoped out by our faithful spotters in VT- Paul Gervais, Bob Schumacher, and Don Brush among others- These guys have been tireless all season and we thank them for it! We also appreciate the local yacht club for letting us launch from their beach. And also a big thanks to Paige and John for keeping score and Eben Whitcomb for organizing the whole thing.

The racing was great- Saturday saw the breeze fill in late but just in time to squeeze in one race. Bob Schumacher took that one and we headed in. Sunday saw the breeze up early and we did six- count ’em, six races in moderate to light breeze. On a long course, no less… Flat sails and thin inserts were the tools of the trade that seemed to work best.

Local talents Don Brush and Bob Schumacher took 5th and 4th spots, New Jersey legend Dave Clapp took 3rd, Chad Atkins of RI took a close second and James “T” Thieler made a deal with the devil and finished first.

All in all a great, full day of racing DNs! Best sailing there is… Keep your fingers crossed for such conditions for the NA’s….

Video Coverage from the 2012 New England’s

Thanks to Peter DiPrinzio for shooting the well produced video coverage of this years New England’s. One has to wonder if the on-board video equipment contributed to parasitic drag. Enough talk, look below for today’s show.

2012 New England’s Official Results

If you missed the 2012 New England Champs you missed a good one!

Paul Gervais once again found us all a great sheet of ice on outer Mallet’s Bay and Mother Nature was kind enough to provide light to medium breeze. There was a bit of light snow in the ice but insert runners and full sails were the combo.

Eric Anderson, in addition to his many duties as commodore, did some work on his boat and got her going well enough to take third. Chad Atkins was moving well in the light stuff to take second and Greg Cornelius had enough of an edge to take first. Racing was close with many lead changes and close finishes all day long.

Bob Crinion and Art Samson made it down from Nova Scotia, Dave Fortier tested the water (no harm to boat or skipper- thanks to Chad for providing the main-sheet to pull him and his boat out), and we had Peter DiPrinzo and his girlfriend Stephanie on hand shooting video, pics, and writing an article about the regatta- Better yet, they kept score! Many thanks to them for that and we look forward to seeing the pics and finished article.

Many laughs at dinner at some pizza place I can’t recall the name of- Safe to say a good time was had by all! Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

Stay tuned for the next regatta….
