With the storm rolling through will the committee find a venue for the NA’s?

Either way safe travels home to all pilots.

2011 DN World and North American Regattas

Updates and information links

The DN Worlds will be underway in a few hours after a venue change from Menominee, MI, to Henry, IL (360+ miles) due to snow.   Weather may cause more problems for the participants.  Time will tell.

A couple links to help keep up to date on the event and NEIYA competitors.

2011 Don “Doc” Fellows Results

The Doc Fellows Regatta was held on Snipatuit Pond in Rochester MA. We were
lucky to get the regatta in the books as the weather was not cooperating.

Snow moved across New England late in the week, making a site selection difficult.
We did finally make the call for Snipatuit Pond; thanks to Doug Sharp and the
Eastern MA sailors for scouting the lake.

The weather wasn’t promising as a high had settled in- light and variable winds
were the order of the day. The first race was abandoned after two laps and a
long wait ensued. Later the wind did fill in and we were able to squeeze in
three races before the day was out.

Chad Atkins and Greg Cornelius seemed to have an extra gear and split first
and second in the first two races. In the final race Chad was able to get his
nose out front to take the race and the regatta.

Many thanks to Henry Capotosto for keeping score and to the competitors for
showing up and not giving up when the breeze didn’t look too promising!

The regatta this year was dedicated to the memory of Don Kent. Thanks for everything
Don! Fair winds…

or for those with GPS just put in 514 Neck Rd which is across the street from the access ramp

**** Note: The conditions for this event are likely to be challenging, but frankly it is the best we have to offer

NEIYA club information.

First, there are only 3 official methods that the club is going to use for mass communication with members.

The first is the Hotline.  This will function the same as it always has.

The second is this website, theNEIYA.org.  John Stanton is overall in control of the website.  The left half of the main page will contain announcements for upcoming events.  This will be updated as soon as locations and times for events are known.

The third thing is the club newsletter, Black Ice.  The NEIYA secretary (ED) has overall control of this one.   Obviously this is for information that is not super time critical as it has much longer lead times.  The goal is about 3-5 issues per year.

In the past the NEIYA used the yahoo groups to put out information, but we are going to stop doing this for several reasons. First, is to make the NEIYA hotline and website the focal point.  The second reason is that the yahoo group is not under NEIYA control, and the content is often inflammatory.      If we put out an official announcement for a location and or event, and you think it is the wrong call, feel free to call, or email myself or any of the board members.

Another Great Success!

This year’s Tune-up Clinic was better then ever, covering boat tuning and maintenance as well as a good portion of time to the ever important topic of safety.

Interactive safety discussions included “Right of Way” rules, ice checking, ice rescue and sharing the ice with others (ice fishermen, etc.).

Special thanks to Steve and Linda Lamb for the use of the shop and the great selection of food and goodies. There is no better equipped shop for this event.

Now all we need is safe ice…
