If you have not reserved your lunch by paying online or dropping me an email (john@neiya.org) you may end up with an empty bowl and a growling belly. Still on the fence? We made it easy to pay for your membership online at the same time. Payment options are below. You can check out via credit card or PayPal if you choose.

I’m Looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday. Classified items have been coming in. Check out what is already be there or post your items for sale.

We don’t want to turn anyone away so commit today by paying online. NOTE, you can use any credit card, not just PayPal. I am seeing payments coming through so you are in good company.

On The Way….

Things are cooling off just a little…. Soon things will freeze up….

Here’s a few photos to remind us all of what’s on the way- these were taken at Webster Lake last spring, late March if I recall.

That’s Peyton Albanese in 2172, Ed Demerest in 4886, and Matt Knowles in 5606.

It was a good day!

9/11

Take a moment, folks.

DN work list, training and watching videos

It’s August and about that time to get serious or just distracted from the day job and think about ice boating. On my end the fitness training started two weeks ago, T infused my new plank with Jeff Kent over the weekend, and today I caved to distraction and sought out some you tube videos to bring me to that feeling of being on the ice…This video below popped up first. Spectacularly scenic.

I am sure the trusty officers of the club will start thinking about the fall swap meet and settle on a date and location very soon.

Lastly, it’s only five months to go until the Western Challenge. If you have never gone to a regatta before, I encourage you to seriously consider it. You will meet the most welcoming crowd and have a complete blast. After the last year with COVID treat yourself to doing more and hitting the road. You won’t regret it. I promise.

Get cracking!

What We Need….

Summer is great and all but I think all of us are ready for some:

Jane Pegel Hits The Big Time!

Congrats to Jane Pegel! Great that her years of passion, dedication, and work are being recognized.

And did I mention that she also won a ton of regattas along the way?

Well done Jane, all of us hard-water people are proud of you-

That Time Of Year ?

Chicago DN sailor Chris Berger sends this photo, taken just a few days ago….

Clearly he is itching to get on the ice- I gave him a thorough interrogation in an attempt to get him to confess to knowing a secret lake in the Upper Peninsula that never thaws out. He didn’t crack though, just insisted that he was merely moving his gear from one storage location to another….

In any case the Solstice has come and gone, time to get psyched and get cracking on the work list- Think ICE!!

Art Menard Sails Off Forever

Art Menard, Kate Morrone, Bob S, Paul Zucco and Dave Buckley Ninigret Pond 2014

It is with sadness that I have to share the the news of the recent passing of Art Menard. Art was one of the core sailors that would be out on a regular basis. We will all miss seeing Art in the coming winters. But we will remember Art when we sail in and around Massachusetts.

Farewell Art and may your hand be steady on the helm of whatever craft you choose to sail. I’m sure your choice will be an iceboat on miles of black ice with a steady 12 knts to wind up the speed.

Art’s obituary can be found here https://obits.masslive.com/obituaries/masslive/obituary.aspx?n=arthur-menard&pid=198959897

As always please share any pictures or memories of Art, either in a comment or feel free to send directly to me and I will post. The above picture was all I could fine in our archive.

BREAK THE ICE

Nice little article here- a good little short history with a nice painting to go with it. Something to reflect on as we while away the summer months…

Special thanks to my mom for sending this one in!
